Home / Guard comparison

Which gutter guard actually works?

Every guard style keeps out something. The question is what gets through, what happens under heavy rain and snow, and what it looks like in year ten. Here's the honest comparison, from a company that has pulled every one of these types out of customers' gutters.

Stainless micro-mesh (what we install)

A fine stainless-steel mesh over an aluminum frame, fitted to your existing gutters. The trade-off: it's a professional install, not a Saturday project.

Foam inserts

Brush guards

Plastic screens

Reverse-curve / helmet systems

Common questions

Is any gutter guard totally maintenance-free?

No — and anyone who says otherwise is selling something. Micro-mesh gets closest: an occasional light sweep from the ground (we include the brush free) versus digging out open gutters twice a year.

Can micro-mesh handle Pacific Northwest rain?

Yes. Micro-mesh passes water far faster than any storm delivers it. Overshooting is a reverse-curve problem, not a mesh problem.

What about snow and ice in the Treasure Valley?

The mesh sits at roof pitch, so snow slides rather than piling on the gutter lip, and there's no plastic to crack. Ice dams are a roof-insulation issue no guard can fix — we'll tell you honestly if we see one forming.
